ABOUT SJSU

San Jose State University (SJSU) is pleased to be a partner institute of CSU WITH Cyber. As an institution, our workforce development, research strengths, and industry  partnerships in cybersecurity position us to be a transformative leader in cybersecurity.  Located at the heart of Silicon Valley, SJSU has offered the greatest number of cyber  engineers to the Silicon Valley tech industry. Led by two PIs in the College of Science  (Melody Moh, CS Professor and Chair) and in College of Engineering (Xiao Su, Assoc.  Dean and CMPE Professor), the SJSU project team includes enthusiastic cyber  experts from different colleges (Science, Engineering, Social Sciences, and  Professional and Global Education), and is strongly supported by K-16 education  experts and cyber ethics researchers from 2 other colleges (Education, and Humanity  and Arts). 

SJSU’S WITH-CYBER CAMPUS INITIATIVES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Increasing the Number of Students in Cybersecurity Degrees/Certificates/Minors. This is done through recertification as an NSA Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, developing/offering curriculum pathways to a diverse set of majors, and  expanding women and minority students in cyber.

  2. Extending Community Colleges and K-12 Pathways and Outreach Programs This is done through leveraging the Bay Area K16 Collaborative, the NSF-funded HSI STEM project, and the Jay Pinson STEM Education Program.

  3.  Industry Employer Engagement and Community Partnership This is done through enhancing industrial/community Partnership, growing capstone  projects, and expanding CyberAware Day and Cybersecurity-focused student clubs and  hackathons.

OUR LONG-TERM GOALS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Achieve CAE re-designation CAE-CD.

  • Increase SJSU student retention rates in cybersecurity programs, their career  preparation for cybersecurity roles, and cybersecurity employment opportunities

  • Increase HS and CC students’ knowledge of cyber career options and interest in  pursuing a cyber career.

  • Increase industry partnerships and relationships with local law enforcement  agencies.

  • Increase the diversity of the cybersecurity workforce.
